Israel seizes pro-Palestinian flotilla

The Israeli military has seized a convoy of ships carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which is under economic blockade. At least 10 people were killed in the incident.

Descending from helicopters, Israeli navy commandos boarded and seized all 6 ships off the coast of Gaza early Monday morning.

The flotilla was being sent by pro-Palestinian groups and a Turkish human rights organization. They say the 6 vessels were carrying 10,000 tons of medical equipment, construction materials and other items. About 600 pro-Palestinian activists are also on board the convoy.

The Israeli military says that 10 activists were killed and 4 Israeli troops injured when they clashed on the vessel.
Some pro-Palestinian media also reported that an unknown number of people were injured in the incident.

The Turkish government summoned Israeli ambassador in Ankara and lodged a strong protest.

A large number of Turkish people gathered in front of the Israeli Embassy in Ankara and its General Consulate in Istanbul.

Israel has been restricting flows of people and goods into Gaza since radical Palestinian group Hamas took control of the region 3 years ago.

The Israeli government has told the human rights groups that it will not allow the convoy to enter any port in Gaza.
