Museum displays works of pioneer 'Gundam' designer
MATSUYAMA -- An exhibit showing the designs of pioneering "mecha" designer Kunio Okawara, 62, known for his work on the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series, opened to the public on July 24 at the prefectural art museum here. Fans in their 30s and 40s, known as the "Gundam generation," as well as parents and children filled the exhibit halls.
Around 300 pieces are on display, including original design illustrations, toys based on the designs and three-dimensional models. In addition to serious anime like Gundam, illustrations of robots from the comedy "Yatterman" are also on display, testifying to the wide range of Okawara's work. Also on display is a life-size 3D figure of a "Scope Dog" mecha from the anime "Armored Trooper VOTOMS," standing around four meters tall.
