112 killed, 500 missing in Sumatra tsunami
A tsunami caused by a powerful earthquake has hit Indonesian islands off Sumatra, killing 112 people and leaving 502 missing. The damage is expected to widen as the situation in some areas is not clear yet.
The magnitude 7.7 quake occurred on Monday night with its epicenter off Sumatra. A 3-meter wave reached the Mentawai islands.
About 2,000 families have been made homeless.
Communication networks are down.
Local authorities say they are trying to gather information on 13 villages in the islands.
The state government is arranging a rescue operation and the transportation of aid supplies.
