Toyota Prius now cheaper locally
October 28, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — UMW Toyota Motor has dropped the on-the-road price of its Prius in Peninsular Malaysia to RM139,900 from RM175,000, effective today.
The price in Sabah and Sarawak is RM141,500 due to higher logistics costs.
In a statement today, UMW Toyota Motor said the move was in line with the extension and enhancement of tax incentives for hybrid cars effective from January 1, 2011 until December 31, 2011, announced by the government in the 2011 Budget recently.
“Since the announcement, we have proactively reviewed our current Toyota Prius price even though the effective date is on January 1, 2011.
“With this, Malaysians can enjoy our most popular hybrid car, Prius, at a more affordable price,” UMW Toyota Motor president Kuah Kock Heng said in a statement today.
Kuah described the Prius as the most popular hybrid car in the world with worldwide sales exceeding two million units. — Bernama
