Selangor says no deficit in its 2011 budget

SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 – Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today said Selangor’s 2011 Budget to be tabled at the State Assembly next month will not be a deficit budget.
The state government hopes that the allocations to be announced will meet the targets and bring benefits to the people, he told reporters after chairing a state government meeting here today.
Selangor’s budget theme will be “State Revenue for Citizens” he said.
Asked on whether there will be bonus for its employees next year, he said that if the state received a surplus it might announce a bonus.
He also said that the state government hoped to be able to work with the federal government in the development of the Klang Valley or the Greater Kuala Lumpur.
The state government will work with the federal government in terms of implementation of a more efficient system that would focus on public transportation including planning and building the Mass Transit System, he said.
“We also feel that urban redevelopment will be one way of a stimulus package in driving Malaysia’s economy, as we feel that direct foreign investments would decline due to the prevailing global economy.”
However, Abdul Khalid said the redevelopment of urban areas would have to be monitored so that the supply of properties would not exceed demand. – Bernama
