Japan soccer coach Okada to quit
Japan coach Takeshi Okada has indicated his intention to step down after his team was eliminated from the World Cup in the Round of 16.
Okada, along with his players, spoke at a news conference at Kansai International Airport on Thursday upon return from South Africa. He said he has devoted himself to the team, thinking that this was his final effort as its coach. He said he does not think he will work with these players again and he wished them all the best in their careers.
Japan lost to Paraguay in a penalty shootout on Tuesday, missing a chance to reach the quarterfinals. Japan advanced to the knockout round for the first time outside of Japan by posting a record of 2 wins and 1 loss in Group E.
