Another Japanese plant in China hit by strike
Production at a Japanese electronic parts maker in China's coastal area of Tianjin has come to a halt after workers walked off the job, demanding higher wages.
China's Xinhua News Agency says the latest strike broke out on Tuesday afternoon at a plant belonging to Tokyo-based Mitsumi Electric.
A majority of the plant's 3,000 workers have joined the strike.
The walkout follows strikes at 2 Toyota car assembly plants in China in mid-June. Management eventually agreed to make improvements in the working conditions.
Mitsumi Electric's plant is within the same industrial complex as one of the Toyota plants that went on strike.
An NHK reporter says Toyota's offer to improve working conditions likely gave workers at other plants the incentive to strike.
Japanese firms in China may be further affected by labor unrest.
