Japan's trade minister Masayuki Naoshima has asked Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to commission a Japanese firm to build a nuclear power plant in the country.
Naoshima and top executives from Tokyo Electric Power, Toshiba and other Japanese firms met Dung in Vietnam on Wednesday. Vietnam plans to ask foreign firms to build 2 plants.
Naoshima said Japan is ready to cooperate in every possible way. Dung replied that he gives high marks to Japan's nuclear power plant technology and its safety, and promised to positively consider the proposal.
Russia won an earlier bid to build 2 other nuclear plants in Vietnam.
