KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Smoke from forest fires in Indonesia shrouded parts of neighbouring Malaysia, including the capital on Monday, reducing visibility to less than a kilometer.
Officials said the haze, which started last week, could persist for at least another week if it did not rain due to dry weather made worse by monsoon winds.
The Department of Environment has identified eight areas, including Kuala Lumpur, as having "unhealthy" air quality, and advised the public to reduce outdoor activities.
"The slow dissipation of the haze and smoke particles due to slow air movement is causing the haze to persist," it said in a statement.
Officials blamed the haze on hundreds of fire "hot spots" in Indonesia's Riau province and northern Sumatra.
The haze is less severe than the thick blanket of forest-fire smoke that descended on the region in 1997 and 1998 and cost an estimated $9 billion in damage to farming, tourism and transport.

No wonderlah. . . . semalam situasi amat teruk sekali. Dalam perjalanan ke tempat meeting nampak jalan pun dalam 500m aje. Meeting pun decided kalau lebih 400API maka kena close down. Dalam pada itu kagum jugak dengan kawan yang dalam jerebu sempat mencilok untuk melakukan 5 par dan 1 birdie. . . . ish ish ish. Jangan sakit sudahlah ye?

Satu pandangan : adalah perlu untuk memastikan data terkini pekerja di up-date kerana kalau kerajaan declarer darurat, ada yang datang kerja sebab tak diberitahu ataupun tak datang kerja sebab ingat tak kerja - alasan jerebu tapi tempat kerja below 300 API.

Ahmed Deedat Yang Ku Ketahui

Aku tak pernah dapat bertemu secara terus dengan Ahmed Deedat ni tapi dia merupakan inspirasi melalui buku-buku penulisannya. Mungkin masa tu aku masih bersekolah jadi agak terhad, ialah sekolah asrama lagi, kat U lagi. Aku tak ingat tajuk buku-buku dia yang aku baca tapi banyaklah juga. Pengetahuan beliau yang luas dalam Islam tidak dinafikan tetapi kekuatan beliau dalam berhujah dengan pihak kristian untuk menangkis kelemahan/kesilapan ajaran kristian amat mengkagumkan.

Amaran yang boleh aku beri adalah kepada yang berminat untuk membaca buku tersebut mestilah dengan asas agama yang kukuh kerana buku tersebut ditujukan kepada kristian untuk pemahaman dan pandangan terhadap kristian dari perspektif Islam, pandangan Islam terhadap Nabi Isa dan Musa, pandangan Islam terhadap kristian dsbnya.

Beliau pernah datang ke Malaysia pada tahun 80an tak silap aku. Lahir di India pada tahun 1918 dan berhijrah mengikut bapanya ke Afrika Selatan dimana disitulah dia mula melangkah hingga dikenali keseluruh dunia Islam khasnya dan seluruh dunia amnya.

Semoga Allah mencucuri rahmat keatas beliau dan atas apa yang telah beliau lakukan.

Early this morning, 8 August 2005 / 2 Rajab 1426, Sheikh Ahmed Hoosen Deedat passed on to meet his Creator. This was after succumbing to a severe stroke that left him paralysed for more than nine years.Throughout this period, he gracefully persevered under the most difficult personal conditions; however, not forgetting his task as a daee (Islamic worker) and an ambassador of Islam, he continued to inspire, educate, challenge and inform people about the universal message of Islam.It is on this solemn occasion of his demise that we salute the courageous spirit and phenomenal work of this world-renowned personality, a hero of the Muslim World, nay, a true hero of believers all around the globe!
Brief Biography of Sheikh DeedatSheikh Ahmed Hoosen Deedat was Born on the 01 July 1918 in the Surat district of India in 1918. His father emigrated to South Africa in 1927 with him. Ahmed Deedat was a very bright student and excelled in school. Lack of finance interrupted his schooling and at an early age of 16 he took on the first of many jobs in retailing and short assistant.
After reading a book called Izharul Haq – The Truth revealed, a book about a debate with Christian Missionaries in the then British India, Sheikh Deedat was spurred on in the direction of Dawah – Islamic Missionary Activity to halt the tide of the then Christian onslaught against Islam.Over the next four decades, he immersed himself into a host of activities. Conducting Bible classes, lectures and debates the world over. He established the first Islamic Seminary in Southern Africa to train propagators at Assalaam educational Institute - Braemar.
He is the founder of the largest Islamic Dawah Organization in the world, the Islamic Propagation Center International and became its president.
He has published more than 20 books and distributed millions of copies of FREE literature and pamphlets the world over. Many of Sheikh Deedat’s publications have been translated into the many different languages of the world : Russian, Urdu, Arabic, Bengali, Bangladeshi, French, Amharic, Chinese, Japanese, Mayalam, Indonesian,, Zulu , Afrikaans, Dutch, Norwegian amongst others. He delivered thousands of lectures all over the world, crossing all the continents and successfully engaging some of the biggest names in Christian evangelists in public debates. Sheikh Deedat’s debates and lectures are available all over the world in the various languages in Video and DVD format.
His career in the field of Comparative Religion took him across all five continents and dialogue with the heads of the Protestant world in America and the late Pope John Paul.So fearless was his stand in defending the truth that Sheikh Deedat was refused entry into France and Nigeria on the pretext that‘he would cause a civil unrest’.Sheikh Deedat also received a personal phone call at the IPCI from former President Nelson Mandela who was in Saudi Arabia at the time, congratulating Deedat for his international icon status in the Muslim World.
He was awarded the prestigious King Faisal Award in 1986 for his sterling services to Islam in the field of Propagation.
May Almighty Allah bless his soul, accept his efforts for the cause of da’wah and grant gracious patience to his loved ones during this trying time.
His funeral will leave his house 49 Trevenen Road, Lotusville Verulam at 5 pm. Proceeding to the Wick Street Musjid and after Magrib Salah / Prayer , he will be laid to rest in the Verulam Muslim Cemetery.

UPDATE ON SUDAN

Information from my friend in Sudan. Thank Allah for keeping him safe.

The situtation in Khartoum is getting better. On the first day (1/8) the southerners ran amuck. On the second day the northerners took charge and to some extent retaliated. On the third day the rumours went around Khartoum that another southerner leader from the "Neweer Tribe" General Paulino Matib was murdered. (Note John Garang's tribe is "Dinka"). Neweer and Dinka tribes are also used to be at war.
Some colleagues who are brave went out for lunch on the 3rd day... when they finished ordering the police came and asked them to leave, for fear of possible disturbances.
Today (the 4th day) the situation is getting better. However, we don't know about the weekend. The funeralis going to be held on Saturday, they may become emotional.
The night curfew is still on and all the shops have not opened.

Latest Update : terima hari ini (8/8/2005)

Sudan population is 34 million.(year 2004) There are about 250 tribes. 75% of these tribes are primarily Muslims/Arabs. The rest are Christians and Ethnic Religion (animist?), about 15 and 10% respectively.
Dinka (the tribe of John Garang and his successor Silva Kiir) is considered the biggest Christian tribe with about 2 million people. Nuer (the tribe of this General Paulino Matib) is the biggest animist tribe with over 1 million people. And yes the general has his own army...
Tribe rivalry is not uncommon. Cuba recall sejarah Arab sebelum Islam.. kerana kambing seekor dua tribe/kabilah boleh berperang berpuluh-puluh tahun.Bila tengok kejadian dua, tiga hari ini aku tidak heran macamana mereka boleh berperang.
Bayangkan, si John Garang ni mati pasal apa belum tahu lagi (atau almost confirm accident with no foul play), yang budak-budak ni mengamuk tak tentu hala... habiskedai dipecah, kereta dibakar, ada orang yang disembelih. Yang Arab pulak keesokan harinya balas balik... so bila nak selesai...
Ada seorang kawan yang berada di dalam ofis semasa kejadian di hari pertama (1/8), katanya macam tengok movie. Kereta sedang berjalan, mamat south ni baling batu di kiri kanan, driver lost control, hit something and the car flew and landed in the ditch. The southerners proceeded to burn the car. Somehow somebody saved the driver, but the car was history...
So imagine if the driver was you or your brother, what would you do when you see this southerner group the next day. Wouldn't you "do" something to them?
One thing will lead to another, and the next thing you find you are in a war...
Fortunately, now they are not at war in Khartoum, some 1400 people has been arrested by the police. Anyhow,kita tetap berjaga-jagalah.

RIOT IN SUDAN

Post di bawah ini aku ambil dari e-mail dan gambar yang dihantar rakan sepersekolahan yang sedang berada di Sudan atas urusan kerja. Kepada yang tak tahu apa berlaku boleh check ini.

"Assalamualaikum,
Some experience I went thru today. I watched in the news about the death of VP John Garang, but didn't expect any problem since he died in a crash of a helicopter owned by Ugandan Army.
I was going for a meeting with one Khartoum state-owned company, on the way suddenly the van driver hit the emergency brake, and made u-turn...there were a crowd rioting on the street. The southern boys gang managed to throw some rocks at our van.
I was not that afraid, or shocked so we looked for alternative roads to the office. But somehow we were led farther and farther away from the city because the streets were full of riots. The driver took the shortcuts and kampung road to evade the rioters, but somehow we were connered.
So we parked the van behind one old contenna. Luckily one of the house owners allowed us in with the van also parked inside their compound. Minutes later I heard shootings. I could not contact anybody in Khartoum. But when I tried calling Malaysia, I managed to contact one colleague. I told him to tell people that I was safe.
One of my staff, a southerner, went outside the compound to survey the area. He was nearly shot by the police when the southerners gang was running away from the police and he accidentally joined the crowd.Luckily he was saved when one of the local allowed him in.
We were dead worried about this staff of mine. When things went quiet for a while, he emerged at the place we were hiding. I told him I was very worried about him , funnily he told me he was worried about me because he 's afraid I would go out to look for him.
The good part... the house owner treat us with lunch(they call breakfast at 11.00am), bread with foulbean, egg etc. At about 2pm we were told that the security forces had managed to control the situation and it was safe to go out.
So we came back straight to Office. People at the office were worried about me too.They were making solat hajat already... I was told a few other staff are also stuck at some of other work locations.
Have another lunch, the office ordered from hotel since nobody's allowed out yet...
Morale of the story... problem macamana pun.. soru tak miss...On the serious note.. I feel very lucky to be safe...Thanks to Allah..."
