BOJ lowers key interest rate to near zero

The Bank of Japan has decided to lower its key interest rate further to between zero to 0.1 percent to keep the nation's economic recovery on track. This is the first time in 4 years and 3 months for the central bank to reinstate a virtual zero-interest rate policy.

The decision came in a 2-day meeting of the bank's policy board that ended on Tuesday. Board members discussed the global economy and the effects of a strong yen on corporate performance.

They agreed that while the Japanese economy is recovering moderately, the US downturn and the soaring yen could delay the country's move out of deflation.

The BOJ decided to address the concern, adding to previous measures in August.

It says it will keep the benchmark interest rate near zero until consumer goods prices rise by around one percent.

The central bank also said it is studying the creation of a fund to buy assets such as Japanese government bonds to stimulate the economy.

American minks found living in northern Japan

A number of minks native to North America have been found living in the wild in Fukushima Prefecture, northern Japan. Experts say the animal can damage the eco-system in the area.

52 male and female minks were captured around a river in Koriyama City from late August to October 1st.

The minks are believed to be descendants of American minks that were brought to northern parts of Japan after World War 2 to be farmed for their fur.

Sadao Ihara of Ohu University says 6 to 7 minks were found to be living per kilometer along the river, and that this density is higher than that of other mink habitats around the world.

Ihara warns that if the minks prey on too many frogs, the population of frogs that eat crop pests will decrease, causing damage to local farming.

He is calling for measures to get rid of the harmful non-native animal.

The breeding and sale of American minks has been prohibited in Japan since 2006, when they were designated as an invasive alien species that could harm the indigenous ecosystem.

Water business fair opens in Saudi Arabia

One of the largest international trade fairs on water and power generation in the Middle East has gotten underway in Saudi Arabia.

About 100 companies from Asia and Western countries are participating in the water business fair in Jeddah. They are showcasing their technology in such areas as desalinization and constructing water and sewage systems.

Demand for water has been rising in the Middle East, where rain is scarce, due to increasing populations and urban development. Many countries in the region lack the infrastructure to purify household water and industrial drainage.

Saudi Arabia is seen as a promising market, with its growing needs and wealth generated from the oil industry. The country has been promoting the privatization of water projects since last year, and welcomes the entry of foreign firms.

At the event, Japanese firms explained their technology to Saudi officials.

The Japanese government and the private sector plan to step up efforts to make headway in the water and power generation business, a field already dominated by European companies.

Belum Surau Al-Husna juga buat sambutan hari-raya pada hari Sabtu. 

Makcik buat kenduri untuk pi haji. 

Mak buat open house (lebihnya adik-adik nak ajak kawan-kawan dorang la...) pun tak pergi.

 Macamana nak pergi? Jalanraya di hujung minggu lebih teruk sesaknya dari hari biasa sebab ramai yang keluar pergi menjelajah memenuhi jemputan. 

Adik yang bercadang hendak balik ke rumahnya melencong ke rumah mak apabila MRRU sesak giler.... itupun nasib ada DUKE.

Semalam nak ke rumah makcik pun tengok di lorong sebelah sesak teruk. Dah dok fikir nak balik ikut mana lah nanti......
